Eight Month Update!

Hooray! I am now eight months old! The past few months have been quite an adventure for me. Mummy and Daddy took me to San Francisco, not once, but twice! Coincidentally, I got to witness my first lion dance performance and heard some very large firecrackers go off. Mummy and Daddy were so concerned that it would hurt my ears that they quickly whisked me off the street and into the back of a store, any store, simply to escape the loud crackling of the firecrackers. To Mummy and Daddy’s amazement, I didn’t find the firecrackers all that terrifying at all.

I’m a regular on Stage 2 food now, but Grandma Tran has been making me homemade baby food. Not only are they delicious, but also very nutritious -- I have no problem finishing each of my meals! I can get a bit messy at mealtime though because my hands would sometimes “have a mind of its own". For some reason, my hands would discover my mouth when it’s conveniently full of food and then it wanders onto my face, onto the highchair or anything that my little paws can reach! This is one of the reasons why Mummy prefers to give me a bath after a meal, and never before! I’m still a big fan of liquids! I’m still drinking milk regularly and love drinking H20 and homemade soup! I recognize the word, “water” in Chinese every time I hear it and would greet it with my mouth wide open ready for the cool refreshing taste! Fruits are yummy too! I’ve also been introduced to the Gerber Graduates fruit puffs, which Mummy always carefully breaks into pieces before feeding me. If you haven’t seen them, they’re no larger than a sunflower seed, but since my teeth haven’t appeared yet, Mummy is exercising caution to prevent the possibility of choking.

Mummy has gotten me a no-spill sippy cup, which I have no problem holding up to my mouth. I can even hold it with one hand even when it's 1/3 full of water. What can I say -- I’m a strong baby! I still haven’t quite mastered holding my own bottle, at least not for the duration of a feeding!

I have rolling down packed. For a while, I was able to roll over from my back onto my tummy, but I found that rolling back onto my back to be an impossible task. Then out of the blue, on a Saturday afternoon, I just started rolling over! And it has stuck with me since! Now, when Mummy and Daddy puts me down on the living room floor, I am eagered to roll from one side of the room to the other and can usually accomplish this in seconds! This has caused diaper changes to be quite a challenge! I’ve also been scooting my butt when I’m on my back and more recently, I’ve been able to lift my tummy off the ground and scoot myself forward, just like a (struggling) caterpillar! These are all tell-tale signs that the next major milestone – crawling is fast approaching (at least in Mummy’s opinion)!

One of the major highlights this past month was my fever of 104.5 degrees! Although, I wasn’t too bothered by it, it got Mummy and Daddy really worried! They called the Doctor’s office outside of office hours only to be told to pick up some Infant Tylenol or Motrin and to monitor my temperature. That night, I got to sleep in Mummy and Daddy's bed again, but I made sure that I was on my best behavior! To its credit, Motrin really did work its magic on me as my temperature was reduced to 102 and then 98 degrees the following morning! Mummy and Daddy couldn’t have been more relieved!

Lastly, I’ve been promoted out of my carrier and into a convertible car seat! Mummy and Daddy got me a really comfy and ultra cool car seat. It’s stationed directly behind the driver's seat, allowing me to have a great view of the outside world every time I ride in it. I definitely prefer this over the carrier any day!
