Will Dig For Horseneck Clams

Ed and I felt inclined to attempt one of the world's messiest jobs of digging for Horseneck clams. So on a late Saturday afternoon around 2PM at Doran Park in Bodega Bay when the tide was low, we trekked across the muddy seabed in high hopes to dig out our prize! Along the way, our shoes -- be it tennis shoes or wellies were sucked in by the mud. This experience resembled that of sinking sand, except the mud was really thick. With each step, the mud would draw your feet down and it was a workout just to pull your foot out only for it to sink again as it lands back down onto the floor. If you're wondering if the "workout" was worth it, I suppose the answer is "Yes". Ed and I succeeded in bringing home 17 Horseneck clams (the limit is 10 per person) while helping our friends locate a number of clams too! There's no way, we wanted anyone in the group to go home empty handed!

The biggest clam (in the leftmost spot in the second row) was dug out towards the end of the adventure when we moved into a totally different spot. It's too bad we waited so long to move because it was the prime spot for digging larger sized clams. Oh well, let's hope they're fattening themselves up just waiting for the day that we come back and get 'em! :)
